About Gulfstream
Gulfstream Early Childhood Learning Center was the first internship within the program. It began in 2017, were interns were tasked with beautification projects, organization and design, and attending and participating in business meetings from Broward County.
The empty school from last year as grown to exponential rates, and classrooms are slowly being filled with children from different income, ethnicities, and ways of living. The interns are now assigned in classrooms were they assist the teachers and the children in whatever they can.
About Our Mentors
Layne Polikolf is a curriculum supervisor for school readiness. he has worked throughout Broward County with agencies and school district department who support early literacy learning. Additionally, he distributes free books throughout the county to enhance student and families home libraries.
Dr. Lori Canning, Ed. D., is the Executive Director of “The Division of Early Learning and Language Acquisition”. Her team, including the Director of Head Start/VPK, the Director of Literacy, Curriculum Supervisors, Teacher Specialists, Parent Educators, Psychologists, and other support staff contributes to the work of early literacy and language development for the all of the children in Broward County, birth through third grade.
About The Interns
Christina is a senior at South Plantation who is also President to Pathways of Innovation (a program at South Plantation High School). Her interests are art and psychology.
Zack is a senior at South Plantation who is one of the 12th grade Representative of Pathways of Innovation. His interests are photography and technology.
Justin is a senior at South Plantation who is one of the 12th grade Representatives of Pathways of Innovation. His interest is dance, cosmetology, and technology.
Yvette is a senior at South Plantation who is Secretary to Pathway of Innovation. Her interests are science, cosmetology, and psychology.
